Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Overview

Ghorepani village is situated in central Nepal and was originally a “Goth Camp” – a place which housed cow sheds. In fact, locals did not stay in Ghorepani back then but dwelled in a near-by village called Khiban. The village happened to fall into one of the major salt trade routes prior to becoming a major trekking route like all others in Nepal. Ghorepani is situated at an altitude of about 2874 meters, or 9429 feet, above the Annapurna Conservation Area and is thus an ideal spot for trekkers.

Ghorepani is a well-acknowledged destination, with a rather grueling ascent: one that features 3381 steps on a steep stone staircase starting from Tikhedhunga. Locally known as the Annapurna Sunrise Trek, it also contains the well-acknowledged challenge at Ulleri of over 3000 stone steps. It offers an unforgettable trek with the panoramic view of the Himalayas and insights into the local way of life on the way.

Another important trek route in the Annapurna region is the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek from Pokhara. It stands at the border of Myagdi and Kaski Districts within the Gandaki province. Poonhill, lying at an altitude of 3210 meters above sea level, offers a panoramic view of the Annapurna Massif and Dhaulagiri ranges, thus this place has been a major viewpoint for trekkers. This viewpoint is renowned for the beautiful sunrise views, due to which many visitors start hiking up early in the morning.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is considered relatively easier compared to other higher-altitude treks in Nepal; hence, this trek is great for those people who have less time but want to witness the grandeur of Himalayan peaks. This trek enables you to gain insight into rural villages, be engulfed in local cultures, and observe the timeless traditions of the region. The trek provides one of the quickest routes to the high mountains while offering some of the most spectacular views of the Himalayas.
