Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking

Ghorepani itself is a village in central Nepal, started as a “Goth Camp” which means a place where all the cow sheds were located. The local people didn’t lived there at the time. They lived in a village just below Ghorepani called Khiban. The small village was part of a salt trade route prior to becoming a trekking route like most of the major trails in Nepal.


Ghorepani is located at an elevation of approximately 2874 m (9429ft) within the Annapurna Conservation Area. It is expected (3381 steps in total) a steep climb up the stone stair case from Tikhedhunga. This trek is also known as the Annapurna sunrise trek and it includes the famous challenge at Ulleri where there are more than 3000 stone steps to ascend.


Poon hill trek, also known as the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, starts from the beautiful town of pokhara, about 200 km north west of Kathmandu. Poon hill is a short trek located on border of Myagdi district and Kaski district in Gandaki province of Nepal at an altitude of 3210 m. It is a hill station overlooking the Annapurna Massif range and Dhaulagiri range. Most people arrive here in the early morning to enjoy the beautiful sunrise views. This lookout is the key viewpoint in the Ghorepani Poon hill trek. You need to hike about one easy hour from the Ghorepani to reach the poon hill, which offers the best mountain views for your life time.


Importantly, Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a relatively easy trek compared to other higher-altitude treks in Nepal. This trek is great for all who have limited time but a strong desire to be near high Himalayan peaks. It is one of the quickest and greatest hikes, takes you on beautiful rural treks and provides breathtaking vistas of lofty snow-capped peaks. 2) Foods and Accommodations

Dal Bhat is the most common food of Nepalese. You will be serve by boiled rice, fresh vegetable curry and a pickles. Additionally, you can also have noodles, momo, pizza, pasta, hot soup, pancakes, porridge, Tibetan bread etc. During the trip you will be serve with Healthy and organic foods full of nutrients and delicious meals.

The trip routes teahouses provide cozy rooms. The rooms has 2 to 3 small beds with clean mattresses, a pillow, a blankets, attached bathrooms, and the views is spectacular from the rooms of the mountain tea house. Likewise, single rooms are available and they will be provided for a solo female traveler.


3) Travel Insurance

Any trek in Nepal, including Ghorepani poon hill trekking, needs travel insurance. While buying it, read the insurance documentation thoroughly and understand the coverage. We strongly recommend you for travel insurance because it provides financial protection in the event of an unforeseen accident.


4) Guide and Porters

All the trekkers are required to take services from licensed trekking guide and to obtain TIMS card from authorized trekking agencies registered with the government of Nepal.

However, our guides are technically competent and have experienced in safety performance. They always carry essential safety equipment, gear, and first aid kids. 

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : From pokhara to nayapol then trek to Tikhedhunga

The first day of your tour will start with a drive from Pokhara to Nayapul for about an hour. We will commence our first trek at Nayapul and trek up to Tikhedhunga from there which is at the altitude of 1577 meters. We will have our overnight stay at a standard tourist guest house in Tikhedhunga after 3 to four hours of walk.

Day 2 : Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani

We will trek along the river Bhurungdi through a suspension bridge. This day we will be trekking through a village of Magar community called Ulleri where you will get a chance to observe their culture and lifestyle. You can observe the scenarios of agricultural fields, rhododendron and oak forest until you reach Nangethanti where you will have lunch or a short rest. We will trek through the beautiful forest to reach Ghorepani at an altitude of 2855 meters and we will spend approximately 5 to 6 hours walking this particular day to reach our destination. We will have over overnight stay at a Guest house in Ghorepani.

Day 3 : Trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani via Poon Hill

We will get up early this morning and will reach to Poon Hill at 3210 meters before the sunrise for the spectacular view of the finest sunrise from the country as well as the panorama of mountain ranges. We then return back to Ghorepani and after the breakfast starts to walk for about 6 hours to reach Tadapani at an altitude of 2630 meters where the day ends and let us relax. We will again stay at a guest house in Tadapani.

Day 4 : Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk

This day we will descent to Ghandruk at 1950 meters; the Gurung community village. This village is also known as the village of Gurkha soldiers. The destination provides excellent views of Annapurna South, Himalchuli as well as Machhapuchhre. We will stay overnight at a guest house in Ghandruk.

Day 5 : Trek from Ghandruk to nayapol then Back to pokhara

The last day of our trekking; we will trek about 3 to 4 hours to reach the bus station to return back to Pokhara.
