Chandragiri is a municipality which is 16 km from central Kathmandu, lies on the south – west 2551 m from sea level. Chandragiri hill top is a major tourist attraction, with its cable car, amazing combination of natural beauty and cultural significance. Moreover, Chandragiri hill is a holy place, where a Hindu temple Bhaleshwor Mahadev located. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Furthermore, you can view the stunning view of the Manaslu, Langtang and Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar and Everest range. Chandragiri can be reach via cable car, driving, or hiking. The second cable car in Nepal after Manakamana was commenced through this route. Cable car runs from Thankot to Chandragiri hills. The Cable car route is around 2.5 km and it takes at least 9 to 14 minutes to reach at the top of hills. It is the best day – trip destination to view beautiful and complete landscape of Kathmandu valley that gives heavenly feeling.

Chandragiri hiking begin with a cable car ride to chandragiri hill and another way is 5 to 6 hours hiking through dense forest. Once you enjoy the Himalayan panorama from the top, you can come back with a cable car ride or walk down hill through dense forest, along the several thousand stone steps. Chandragiri day hiking is rich in its natural beauty and medicinal herbs as well. It is a wonderful place to witness various species of bird, bliss for bird watching. 

It is a historical fact that Prithvi Narayan Shah, king of the shah dynasty, during the campaign of unification of Nepal, observed from this Chandragiri hill and thought of unification of Kathmandu valley (then Nepal Khaldo) is found in the history of Nepal state formation. That is why Prithvi Narayan Shah’s statue has also been built on this hill. The statue associated with the said history becomes the main attraction of anyone who comes there and they take picture with this statue. This hill has become an attractive destination for those who study history or religion.

Nowadays, the zipline and resorts are launch. A hall is also available for organizing meetings, conferences, or seminars at any national and international level. The government of Nepal and non- governmental organization and companies conduct programs here. 

In addition, Chandragiri day hike is possible throughout a year besides rainy season. The temperature of chandragiri hill is moderate with cold fresh air. So, it is suitable for every age group.
