Langtang valley popularly known as the valley of glaciers trek is situated at 19 miles north of Kathmandu. Although being very close to Kathmandu, the Langtang is as wild as any Tibetan highlands with the Idyllic rural landscape. The whole valley is dominated by Mount Langtang Lirung (7246 m) and offers pine forest, swift mountain streams, rugged rock and snow-capped peaks, grassy down and meadows.


The people living in the Langtang region are certainly Nepalese but being the descendant of the Tibetan origin, they look like the Tibetans. So, Langtang region is one of the most popular trekking regions for those wishing a short trek from Kathmandu into the Himalayas influenced by Tibetan lifestyle. The whole Langtang Valley trek is accompanied by beautiful bamboo forests, varieties of rhododendron, majestic waterfalls, etc which makes everybody’s trek a memorable one.

Best Time to Go

Spring Season ( March, April, May ): Spring Season is one of the best season in Nepal to visit Langtang Valley trek as you can see the natural views of green forests, lush Rhododendron, best mountain views during this season.

Autumn Season ( September, October, November): Autumn Season is another best season in Nepal to go to Langtang valley as you can enjoy the beauty of green forests and with best mountain views.

Besides above season, the trek to Langtang Valley is also fine at Monsoon Season but it is a rainy season. You should be careful about insects and leeches during this time. You should have to carry an umbrella or raincoat. This season is most appreciated for nature photographers who like flora and fauna, green lush forests, river, rivulets, waterfalls and many more.

Whereas in Winter season, you can get the perfect view of mountains but the weather is very cold and the trekking trail is all icy and slippery. Thus it is risky to trek in winter season.

The weather is one of the most important factor to consider before deciding to trek to the Langtang Valley. It is perfect to trek during Spring season and Autumn Season. But Winters and Monsoon is little difficult to trek due to heavy snowfalls and cold temperature in winter where as strong storms, thundering, storms and slippery trails in Monsoon.

For Langtang Valley trek you need the following permits:

  • Langtang National Park – USD 34 per person
  • TIMS Card : USD 20 per person ( For Free Individual Trekkers’)
  • TIMS Card: USD 10 per person ( For Authorized Trekking Agency )
